Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy could help you with a wide range of problems including anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties and even some physical symptoms.

Although the link between physical conditions and the connection with the mind is not clearly understood, hypnotherapy can assist with a number of common medical problems including IBS and pain management, boosting fertility through to hypnobirthing.  As well as helping to reduce some of the stress caused by serious illnesses.

Because hypnotherapy is a powerful approach, you may need to get your GP’s consent before tackling some medical conditions and is certainly a good idea to let your doctor know that you are having hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for medical treatment by a qualified doctor and you should get a formal diagnosis for your condition before seeking help from a complementary therapist. If in any doubt please contact me or discuss with your GP for advice before making an appointment.

It is important to be aware that hypnotherapy is not a magic wand and therefore cannot be guaranteed to work every time for every issue.

Hypnosis can help to achieve results by working with your subconscious mind, I give positive relevant suggestions for beneficial change. Helping the client to relax and feel comfortable that enables them to use their imagination just like a daydream, whilst still being aware and in control.

Hypnotherapy is particularly effective, flexible and safe. Helping people to manage their lives, achieve their goals and remove unwanted habits, anxiety, fears and phobias.  Hypnosis can also help to relieve pain and can be used in preparation for and recovery from general surgery. It can increase motivation and improve confidence and self esteem.

Hypnosis / Hypnotherapy What To Expect

Hypnosis is a safe and natural phenomenon which occurs everyday in our lives.  It is a safe method of altering someone’s state of consciousness by talking directly to the sub conscious part of the mind. Hypnotherapy is the application of hypnotic techniques in such a way as to bring about therapeutic change whilst feeling relaxed and supported.  Hypnosis can be achieved on any level or depth of trance and almost everyone has experienced a trance state for example whilst daydreaming, by going off into sleep or listening to our favourite piece of music, or meditating.

So you can be reassured that almost everybody can be hypnotised into a light relaxed state hypnosis, which is wonderfully relaxing and will leave you feeling calm, confident and refreshed.  Although you will be very deeply relaxed you will be fully in control at all times and will be able to open your eyes at anytime or stop the session and you will be able to remember everything after the session. During hypnosis, because your senses as well as your concentration and awareness are heightened, you can speak quite easily. So hypnosis is very successful for Cognitive Processing and Integration sessions where you can freely talk about past experiences.

People are often puzzled or fascinated by Hypnosis but can also bring an expression of surprise, curiosity or resistance, because the general public has watched a TV programme or stage performance of a Hypnotist or Mentalist appear to controll another person.  This is simply not true because you cannot be forced to do anything you do not wish to do.

shutterstock_129464783The unconscious mind is where we store all our thoughts beliefs, emotions and also controls our bodily functions. Our conscious mind is the controller and approver of what it will allow out of the unconscious mind and prefers to repress all those emotions which can be hurtful or traumatising.  Hypnosis itself reduces anxiety and this is done very simply through relaxation and visualisation, allowing you to focus on the positive aspects of your life that encourages a shift in perspective. Resolving issues, unwelcome habits and thought patterns at a subconscious level means that hypnosis can help the parts that other approaches just can’t reach.

Most people have experienced times when you have achieved a considerable amount of work in only a few hours of focused effort, but on other days that same amount of work could have taken you twice as long to complete. During those moments you are tapping into the power of your unconscious mind, creating opportunities to be productive, focused and motivated.

It works incredibly quickly for most people can expect to feel back their real selves again within 5-12 sessions. It works on habits, fears and phobias take approximately 3 sessions, IBS & weightloss are generally between 5-6 sessions.  Hypnotherapy is not something that is “done” to them as if by magic, that they just explain their issue to the therapist who then simply hypnotises their problem away. It is a much more collaborative process and it is very important to understand that change only happens because you want it and because you are prepared to take the necessary steps to allow it to happen.

The initial video consultation is free of charge and is designed to assess what you want to achieve, how hypnotherapy can help you and how many sessions you are likely to need.  The following face to face Hypnotherapy sessions involve much more than Hypnosis. During the first part of each session we’ll talk about the progress you have made and encourage you to express yourself positively, focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems.  Helping you to create a future where you have a more useful perspective and improve the quality of your life.

Hypnotherapy & CBT

This method combines Cognitive Behavioural Techniques with hypnotherapy, which is a modern and extremely effective therapy that brings about positive and lasting changes. Using hypnosis, a safe and highly successful therapy, means that we are able to work with the CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) techniques at a deeper and more profound level, allowing us to directly influence emotions and behaviour. We are able to deal successfully with the irrational fears and negative thinking patterns that prevent you from getting the best out of your life. The hypnotic state makes us more responsive to positive suggestions and it allows us to use our imagination to bring about positive solutions.

Feeling better about yourself and leading a more fulfilled life by using hypnotherapy combined with tried and tested cognitive and behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques is a collaborative process to support you in how you manage your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
