Hypnotherapy has been used successfully in cases of pain relief, insomnia, addiction, phobias, stress and depression. There is a growing body of evidence that it can also greatly aid and galvanise the body’s natural healing processes in a wide variety of illnesses.

What is hypnosis like?

Being in a hypnotic trance feels very pleasant and extremely physically relaxing. Your mind will be fully alert, and you will be able to hear everything the hypnotherapist says, though you may not remember every word.

Although your therapist will be directing you in and out of trance, you have the option to stop at any point if you feel the need to.

How do I know if I can be hypnotised?

You are regularly self-hypnotised when you day dream or are engrossed in something and forget about your environment. If you do not want to be hypnotised you will not be. If you want to be, you will be.

Will I be in control?

Yes absolutely, you will remain in control at all times. This concern is often voiced by those who have watched stage shows and wondered, quite understandably, if they could be made to do that. In hypnotherapy, you and the practitioner work together to promote positive enhancements, you will only accept suggestions that your unconscious mind deems beneficial. You will not accept any suggestions that do not fit into your own moral and ethical framework.

Will I know what is going on?

Yes, at all times. Although your body will be relaxed, your mind will be fully alert.

Will it work for me?

How much you benefit will depend on many factors. One of the most important is that you feel comfortable with your therapist in order for you to feel motivated to follow the suggestions and work together to meet your goals.

Some people find they achieve the wonderful crystal-clear state-of-mind on their first session; others may need to experience lighter states initially in order to allow themselves to completely switch off any questioning from their conscious mind. It should be noted though that even in a very light trance you can make amazing break-through towards your goals and you can feel wonderfully refreshed after each session.

Are there side effects?

Hypnosis is completely natural, so the only side effects are the pleasant by-products of improved well-being. These normally include sleeping better, feeling more confident and having a more positive outlook.
